Nakba Candlelight Vigil
Candlelight Vigil to Mark 77 years of the Nakba that never ended
Every year on May 15, Palestinians around the world mark the Nakba, or catastrophe, referring to the ethnic cleansing of Palestine in 1948
The Nakba (“catastrophe” in Arabic) refers to the violent expulsion of approximately three quarters of all Palestinians from their homes and homeland by Zionist militias and the new Israeli army during the state of Israel’s establishment (1947-49).
The Nakba was a deliberate and systematic act intended to establish a Jewish-majority state in Palestine. Amongst themselves, Zionist leaders used the euphemism “transfer” when discussing plans for what today would be called ethnic cleansing. (From Institute for Middle East Understanding)
Gather at Parliament House steps.
Bring electronic candles (not wax candles), your keffiyehs, flags and posters. Charge up your phone and use the torch.
Electronic candles will be available.

Nakba Rally 18 May 2025
Nakba Rally
The Ongoing Nakba: Occupation Apartheid Genocide
Adelaide/Tarntanya
2pm Sunday 18 May Parliament House Steps
The Nakba never ended and now Israel has turned it into a genocide right before our eyes!
Come, protest, and demand that it stops NOW!
We will conduct a SILENT PROCESSION through Rundle Mall at the end of the rally
We demand that our government sanctions Israel
For 77 years, since the creation of the state of Israel, the world has stood by and let the Israelis take more and more Palestinian land. For 77 years, the Israelis have committed massacres and atrocities and the world has let them!
Now the world is standing by and letting Israel, backed by the US and with the acquiesce of governments like our own, commit the world’s first direct-broadcast genocide!
And our global institutions and instruments, built after World War II on the basis that the horror of a genocide against the Jewish people would never happen again to any other people, are completely impotent. Palestine is THE issue that has unmasked the fallacy of human rights and equality for all. This genocide has revealed that the UN, the Security Council, the International Criminal Court, the International Court of Justice, international law and domestic law are as effective as Israel’s backers want them to be. Our politicians pick and chose which people have human rights and which state leaders are war criminals.
This has been going on for 77 years! PROTEST NOW and tell our government that we DEMAND the Israelis are stopped!
THE AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT MUST:
Demand an immediate and permanent ceasefire
Demand that unfettered humanitarian aid immediately is allowed into Gaza
Impose sanctions on Israel
Recall the Australian ambassador to Israel and expel the Israeli Ambassador to Australia
Establish an arms embargo on Israel and ban all defense materiel produced in Australia from being sent to Israel
Demand an end to the occupation and apartheid
Recognise Palestine as a State.

National Day of Protest: Cut Ties With Trump’s America
National Day of Protest: Cut Ties With Trump’s America
Trump is trying to trample on workers, trans people, Black people and migrants. His government has let Netanyahu ramp up the genocide in Gaza. He’s carrying out mass deportations and locking up Palestinian activists.
Meanwhile, our government continues its partnership with the US. Albanese sent $800 million in military funding and has invited Trump to Australia.
Join the national protest to cut ties with Trump’s America!

Rally for Palestine Adelaide/Tarntanya
Rally for Palestine Adelaide/Tarntanya
2pm, Sunday 13 April 2025
Rally for Palestine and Humanity!
In March, 15 paramedics and humanitarian workers were massacred in Gaza by Israeli military forces. In April,10 people were burned alive or blown to pieces when Israel bombed in a direct hit, a tent being used as a base for journalists; the tent was pitched in front of Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis in southern Gaza.
Has our government condemned Israel for these massacres? The answer is NO.
Has our government condemned Israel for its illegal invasion of Gaza? The answer is NO.
Has our government imposed sanctions on Israel for its total disregard for human life and international law? The answer is NO.
Does our government have any guts at all? The answer is a resounding NO!
Imagine what our government would have said and done if these war crimes and atrocities had been committed by Russia? According to the website of the Australian Foreign Affairs Minister, Senator Penny Wong, “Australia has now imposed a total of more than 1,400 sanctions in response to Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The Government has taken decisive action to ensure Australians are not inadvertently fuelling Russia's war economy”.
So, given the total destruction of Gaza and the murder of thousands and thousands of people, including more than 15,000 children (UNICEF), where are the Australian sanctions on Israel? Israel is conducting, with apparent impunity and protection from countries such as our own, massacres on a daily basis, stealing and appropriating Palestinian land and conducting a genocide in front of the world’s eyes. And, unlike in the case of Russia, our government has taken no action to ensure that we Australians are not inadvertently fuelling Israel’s genocide.
Demand our government acts on its obligations under international law! As Israel continues its genocide in Gaza we continue to demand:
an immediate and permanent ceasefire
that unfettered humanitarian aid immediately is allowed into Gaza
that our government imposes sanctions on Israel
that our government recalls the Australian ambassador to Israel and expels the Israeli Ambassador to Australia
that Australia establishes an arms embargo on Israel and all defense materiel produced in Australia is banned from being sent to Israel
an end to the occupation and apartheid.
Come and rally again to stand with others who believe in humanity!

Snap Rally! Sanction Israel NOW!
SNAP RALLY
SANCTION ISRAEL NOW!
Israel never complied with the ceasefire. The starvation policy continued. The killing of civilians continued. The cutting off water and electricity continued. The ethnic cleansing in the West Bank continued. The torture the rape the degradation the sadism all continued. The ceasefire did not exist. What we had was a slowing down of killings, and now that too will continue at its former speed. (Samah Sabawi)
At Tuesday evening 18 March, Israel has killed at least 400 people in Gaza by resuming aerial bombing of an already devastated Gaza Strip. They are bombing people whom they have been starving for the last two weeks through weaponisation of food aid - no food aid has entered Gaza since 2 March 2025.
We DEMAND the Israelis are stopped!
THE AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT MUST:
Demand a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and lifting of the 17-year land, sea and air blockade.
Pressure its ally, Israel, to facilitate unrestricted access to abundant humanitarian aid into Gaza.
Compel Israel to reverse its ban on UNRWA and condemn the devasting impacts, for the 6 million Palestinian refugees and the victims of this genocide, which Israel has created.
Take immediate action against Israel’s unrelenting and escalating ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, including the most recent intensification of killings and destruction in refugee camps.
Insist on the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from all the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
Impose sanctions on Israeli for its genocide, illegal occupation and apartheid.
Recognise Israel as an apartheid State and demand that it dismantles its Jewish supremacy policies and practices.
Terminate all weapons and weapons components manufacturing contracts with Israel, including collaboration on military research and intelligence sharing.
Lead collective international actions to enforce international Court rulings against Israel.
Expel the Israeli Ambassador and recall Australia’s Ambassador to Israel.
End all diplomatic, military, economic, trade, cultural and sporting ties with Israel to compel the rogue State to end its illegal occupation and apartheid regime.
Enforce the arrest warrants issued by the ICC for Israel’s Prime Minister and former Defence Minister.
Immediately recognise Palestinian statehood.
Affirm that criticism of Israel is not anti-semitic and push back against those who conflate criticism of Israel with anti-semitism.
Defend the rights of the Palestine solidarity movement to free speech, intellectual freedom and freedom to protest from those who seek to silence, smear and discredit advocates of justice, human rights and the application of international law equally to all people.
Acknowledge that the Israeli settler-colonial project of ethnic cleansing, occupation and apartheid are incompatible with Australian democratic values.

A new definition of antisemitism that is in alignment with the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition is to be adopted immediately by 39 universities in Australia.

Palestine At The Epicentre Of A ‘New Middle East’
Pushing the boundaries of International Law to advance colonialism, oligarchy and empire
What does Trump’s proposed “Transfer” plan, historically and ideologically, mean for the state of Israel? How practical is this plan? And how would the Arab countries respond to it?
How does Trump’s proposition impact the rule of law following the new American sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC) and South Africa in light of its application to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) accusing Israel of Genocide?
What is Trump’s vision for Palestine and the ‘New Middle East’? And how does the formation of his administration influence such a vision?
Is there a place for a ‘Free Palestine’ in the ‘New Middle East’? And what does the international recognition of a ‘Palestinian State’ actually mean under the current circumstances?
Can the anti-genocide movement succeed to bring about justice for Palestine at a time of an oligarchs-funded mass hi-tech silencing?
To answer all these questions and more, please join us in this important discussion with Palestinian-Dutch analyst and commentator on Palestinian affairs, Mouin Rabbani.
Among other positions, Mouin Rabbani has served as Principal Political Affairs Officer with the Office of the UN Special Envoy for Syria, Head of Middle East with the Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation, Senior Middle East Analyst and Special Advisor on Israel- Palestine with the International Crisis Group, and Researcher with Al-Haq, West Bank affiliate of the International Commission of Jurists.
Rabbani is Co-Editor of Jadaliyya, where he also hosts the Connections podcast, co- hosts the Long Form Conversations podcast, and edits its Quick Thoughts feature. He is also Contributing Editor of Middle East Report.
Rabbani is Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Centre for Conflict and Humanitarian Studies (CHS), and Non-Resident Fellow at both the Middle East Council on Global Affairs and Democracy for the Arab World Now (DAWN).

Vigil at Royal Adelaide Hospital
From the 25th to the 29th of January 2025, health workers from all over the world held a rally and white tent protest in front of the UN headquarters in Geneva to demand a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.
This vigil replicates those demands and also calls for the immediate protection of medical staff and patients in the besieged territory. After 1196 healthcare workers killed, 264 unlawfully detained, 516 attacks on health facilities, 0 fully functioning hospitals, and >9000 requests for medical evacuations denied, Palestinians are still enduring genocide due to Israel's decimation of the Gaza's healthcare system.

Webinar:
The Palestinian Anti-Apartheid Struggle
The Axis of Resistance and the Fragile Ceasefire Deals - Teetering on the Brink of a ‘New Middle East’
Can the ceasefire deals in Lebanon and Gaza be considered a victory for the axis of resistance?
What perspectives does the ceasefire deal in Gaza present about the state of Israel, the prospects of a Palestinian state and the future of the wider region?
Is there still a chance for unity within the Palestinian political ecosystem? How is the current situation in the West Bank impacting the unity efforts?
Should there be a place for uncompromising parties like Hamas in any future Palestinian polity?
How will the concept of ‘resistance’, in support of the Palestinian struggle for justice, endure in the face of another Trump administration?
To answer all these questions and more, please join us in this brilliant discussion with Abdaljawad Omar.
Abdaljawad is a Palestinian assistant professor and writer based in Al-Bireh, Palestine. He teaches in the Department of Philosophy and Cultural Studies at Birzeit University. His work explores questions of colonialism, resistance, and ideology, with a focus on Palestine.
In addition to his academic research, he is a regular contributor to Mondoweiss, Electronic Intifada, and other publications, where he provides commentary on contemporary political and intellectual developments.
