AFOPA Book Club

  • Palestine Centre For Peace 60 Frome Street Adelaide, SA, 5000 Australia (map)

Welcome to the AFOPA Book Club.

Book: The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine, by Ilan Pappe, 2006.

Join AFOPA Executive Member and historian, Dr David Faber, Adjunct Senior Lecturer, Flinders University, to discuss and learn more about the most transformative moment in Palestine's history - the 1948 Nakba ("catastrophe") and the loss of historic Palestine.

We introduced the book at our July inaugural meeting, and in August will reconvene to discuss the book further.

A special highlight of the evening will be the chance to speak with local South Australian, Joe Frank, who will share with us his family's story of living in the German Templar community in Jaffa in pre-1948 Palestine.

"This [book] is a major intervention in an argument that will, and must, continue. There's no hope of a lasting Middle East peace while the ghosts of 1948 still walk." - The Independent
"Pappe has opened up an important new line of inquiry into the vast and fateful subject of the Palestinian refugees." - The Times Literary Supplement
