Book Launch with Olfat Mahmoud & Senator Claire Moore
Tears for Tarshiha
Brisbane, QLD
Dr Olfat Mahmoud is the Director of the Palestinian Women’s Humanitarian Organisation (PWHO) that provides services to women and children in the Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon. Olfat is well known to many Australians. She has visited Australia on several speaking tours over the past thirty four years. During that time the aid arm of the ACTU Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA, has been working with her and supporting her work with Palestinian refugees in Lebanon. As you know, now the refugee camps are also hosting thousands of refugees from the war in Syria, both Syrians and Palestinians.
Dr Mahmoud’s visit in 2018 is being hosted by Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA, and she will be visiting most Australian states. Olfat will be speaking about the situation of her people in Lebanon and of the pain and suffering and plight of Syrian refugees, especially those in Lebanon. She will also be speaking of the Palestinian Right of Return, and about international funding for refugee services.
Dr Mahmoud’s autobiographical book Tears for Tarshiha published by Wild Dingo Press, about her life in Bourj al-Barajneh, a Palestinian refugee camp in Beirut Lebanon, a life that mirrors millions of refugees across the globe, will be launched and available while she is in Australia.
