Vale Susan Howard

Dear AFOPA Members,

Susan Howard

It is with immense sadness that I inform you that Susan Howard, former member of the AFOPA Executive, passed away on Monday 12 June after a long battle with cancer.

Many of you would have known Susan, but if you didn't and attended our Quiz Nights for the last few years, it was Susan's quiz questions you were answering.

Susan was very active on the Executive and made a tremendous contribution to AFOPA's success.  She had creative and clever ideas that she backed up with action and commitment.

Susan was a dedicated Social Worker.  She was one of the original social workers appointed to the first Women’s Community Health Centre at Hindmarsh, which in the early 1970s was a landmark feminist organisation that led the way for improvements in women’s health and equality in this State.  Since then she had been engaged in other significant Social Work roles in South Australia, with her final role being Student Counsellor at the Adelaide University.

Susan was a kind and intelligent woman and a true friend of Palestine and indeed all people who suffer and are marginalised. She was also a mother, a grandmother, a wife and a wonderful friend to many people.

We send our condolences to her family and we greatly mourn her loss.

A memorial service will be held for Susan at 12:30pm, Tuesday, June 20, 2017 in the Heysen Chapel, Jubilee Complex, 760 Goodwood Road, Pasadena.

Vale Susan!
