There are many opinions on which is the way forward with the Israel-Palestine Question.
These are two of the most frequently discussed:
The Two State Solution
The two state solution is the most favoured and the most agreed upon by the international communities. There is general agreement that the Occupation is illegal and needs to be resolved. The consensus that has been agreed to since the six day war entails:
- Israel withdraws from the Occupied Territories
- Two independent states with secure borders
- A shared capital in Jerusalem
- The right of Palestinian refugees (of which there are many scattered throughout the middle east, and in camps in Lebanon) to return to their homes in Israel or to the new Palestine if they choose, or to receive compensation for their losses.
For the past 20 years the US and Israel have consistenetly rejected this plan.
The One State Solution
Since the proposal for a two state solution met with such failure and the number of settlements in the West Bank has mushroomed in numbers, and Gaza has been blockaded there is a growing sense that a one state solution is the only viable choice.
