Remembering 69 years of Al-Nakba - Candlelight Vigil & Speakout

May 15th will mark 69 years of the Palestinian Nakba (catastrophe). In 1948, more than 1 million Palestinians were ethnically cleansed from their homeland by Zionist forces, with more than 500 Palestinian villages depopulated and destroyed. Of that 1 million, more than 750,000 fled to neighbouring Arab states, while 150,000 were forcibly displaced within what would be come the new Israeli state. Today more than 7 million Palestinian refugees, the largest refugee community in the world, are living in exile.

After 69 years, this bloodshed has not been forgot, nor the Palestinian right of return to their homeland. Israel continues to colonise and ethnically cleanse Palestinian land through occupation and war, while imposing an apartheid regime.

Join us to commemorate 69 years since the Nakba and to say no to Israel's ongoing war crimes, occupation and apartheid regime. Join us to demand justice and freedom for the Palestinian people.

  • End the siege of Gaza
  • End the occupation of Palestine
  • Recognise the Palestinian Right of Return
  • Boycott Israeli Apartheid
  • No Australian support for Israel – Sanctions Now!

Event initiated by the Coalition Against Israeli Apartheid (CAIA) Melbourne
